Choose your agent's voice provider

The Voice shelf on your agent's Look and voice page in the Studio has one tab for each voice provider. NetShow proxy voice is the default, and its tab comes first. Whichever voice you choose, your agent still says it is an AI.

The tabs

  • NetShow: OpenAI's realtime voices through the NetShow connection. Included, no extra cost.
  • Google: Google Gemini voices. Paid, only where approved, under its own daily ceiling.
  • Grok: voices from xAI, with an edgier, bolder style. Paid, only where approved, under its own daily ceiling.
  • Open source: free voices that run on NetShow's own server.
  • ElevenLabs (your key): voices from your own ElevenLabs account, with samples played directly from ElevenLabs.
  • Your own voice: a voice made from a real person's recording, with consent first. This tab shows only when your administrator turns it on (studio_own_voice).

Read the status

A tab that is Ready can speak now. Otherwise it says Switched off, Not set up yet, Needs approval (no daily spending has been approved) or that today's ceiling is reached. You can still press Hear it on every sample; a pick on a tab that is not ready speaks the NetShow voice until it is.

Google and Grok need their own switches (voice_option_sets, voice_provider_google, voice_provider_xai) and a daily ceiling approved by NetShow; picking a voice never turns them on.

The price

On the Google and Grok tabs, the shelf shows the price (voice_shelf_price_line). Where none is approved, it says Not for sale yet on NetShow and that your own key can run it.

Set a paid voice's daily limits

With per-voice limits turned on (voice_shelf_owner_limits), each Google and Grok card has two boxes:

  1. Up to $ a day: the most this voice may spend for this agent in a day.
  2. Minutes for this agent: the most minutes it may speak in a day.
  3. Press Use this voice to save the voice and both limits together.

Both start at zero, and zero means this voice rests. When either limit is reached, the voice rests until tomorrow and your agent speaks the NetShow voice. NetShow's own daily ceiling still applies on top.

Open source

The Open source tab is free. When your administrator turns on open_source_default_voice, picking one of these voices makes it your agent's live voice, and Speaking now names it as Kokoro.

Your own voice, consent first

The tab opens with the price. While none is set it says Not for sale yet, and nothing can be bought. Below the price, Whose voice it can be:

  • Mine: your own voice. Choose Start with the terms, read a short passage, then say the consent sentence yourself.
  • A living adult who agreed: choose Make their private link. They record the passage and the consent sentence themselves, on their own device. Your word alone never makes a voice.
  • A loved one who has passed: the person who holds their estate signs a statement first. Where that path is off, it says Not available yet.

Under Never, the tab names who it refuses before any recording: a public figure, anyone under 18, anyone who has not agreed and recorded it themselves, and places where Google does not offer it.

A finished voice shows as Your voice (private). It reaches a public page only when you turn that page on, labelled as an AI voice cloned with permission. Take it back retires it.

To hear and pick a voice, read Give it a voice that speaks first. To pay a provider with your own account, read Use your own voice key.
